I was searching some career that would feel both rewarding and impactful. I wanted freedom, but even more than freedom, I craved meaning.

When my last event planning contract ended, I knew I could easily find another job doing more of the same, or I could explore the riskier option to go down a new path. Reflecting on my career, the most memorable moments for me were one-on-one interactions whether conducting an interview, training a team member, mentoring or building relationships with vendors and business associates or strategizing with a colleague.

At this point coaching popped up on my radar and I decided to hire my first coach- not only to experience being coached before committing to it as a career, but also because I felt stuck and uncertain about the future.

Coaching was transformational for me. It not only gave me the clarity I needed to make a career change, but also changed my relationship with uncertainty from one filled with fear to one rooted in curiosity and a sense of adventure.

Coaching is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done, and it is a joy and an honor to serve my clients in such a powerful and impactful way.[/vc_column_text][/qodef_accordion_tab][qodef_accordion_tab title=”Where did you train to be a coach?” title_background_color=”#ededed”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1496790575837{padding-left: 50px !important;}”]I completed my training at New York University. The program taught me skills and techniques that support empowered client goal achievement by incorporating multidisciplinary approaches, theory, and foundations into the applied practice of coaching. I learned how to support the discovery and awareness of values, bias, and behaviors, clarify desired outcomes and change behavior through the lenses of adult learning theory, contemporary neuroscience, and relevant psychological models, as well as systems and change theories and philosophy. I also completed the Positive Neuroplasticity Training and Professional Course with Dr. Rick Hanson.[/vc_column_text][/qodef_accordion_tab][qodef_accordion_tab title=”What are the logistics of working with you?” title_background_color=”#ededed”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1496199060703{padding-left: 50px !important;}”]Coaching sessions are generally 60 minutes in duration and are conducted either in-person (at a mutually agreeable location), on the phone, or through video conferencing, depending on the individual needs of the client.[/vc_column_text][/qodef_accordion_tab][qodef_accordion_tab title=”What is the investment for coaching?” title_background_color=”#ededed”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1495750144269{padding-left: 50px !important;}”]Please contact me for information on rates and packages.[/vc_column_text][/qodef_accordion_tab][qodef_accordion_tab title=”How is coaching different from consulting, therapy/counseling, mentoring, or other professions?” title_background_color=”#ededed”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1500589661664{padding-left: 50px !important;}”]

Here is how the International Coach Federation (ICF) describes the differences:

Professional coaching focuses on setting goals, creating outcomes and managing personal change. Sometimes it’s helpful to understand coaching by distinguishing it from other personal or organizational support professions.

Therapy: Therapy deals with healing pain, dysfunction and conflict within an individual or in relationships. The focus is often on resolving difficulties arising from the past that hamper an individual’s emotional functioning in the present, improving overall psychological functioning, and dealing with the present in more emotionally healthy ways. Coaching, on the other hand, supports personal and professional growth based on self-initiated change in pursuit of specific actionable outcomes. These outcomes are linked to personal or professional success. Coaching is future focused. While positive feelings/emotions may be a natural outcome of coaching, the primary focus is on creating actionable strategies for achieving specific goals in one’s work or personal life. The emphases in a coaching relationship are on action, accountability, and follow through.

Consulting: Individuals or organizations retain consultants for their expertise. While consulting approaches vary widely, the assumption is the consultant will diagnose problems and prescribe and, sometimes, implement solutions. With coaching, the assumption is that individuals or teams are capable of generating their own solutions, with the coach supplying supportive, discovery-based approaches and frameworks.

Mentoring: A mentor is an expert who provides wisdom and guidance based on his or her own experience. Mentoring may include advising, counselling and coaching. The coaching process does not include advising or counselling, and focuses instead on individuals or groups setting and reaching their own objectives.

Training: Training programs are based on objectives set out by the trainer or instructor. Though objectives are clarified in the coaching process, they are set by the individual or team being coached, with guidance provided by the coach. Training also assumes a linear learning path that coincides with an established curriculum. We begin by clarifying your vision and goals – perhaps becoming even more clear than you’ve ever been before. Then we look at your current reality and evaluate the distance between it and your goals. Next, we assess options and opportunities, and create a path for the way forward to move you towards your goals.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”6254″ img_size=”full” css_animation=”fadeIn”][/qodef_accordion_tab][/qodef_accordion][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”200″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
